do NOT have Microsoft VM but still receive annoying VM update erro

I have checked Internet options (advanced) and did not find Microsoft VM. I
found Java and have the latest one. Internet Explorer, however is still
version 6.
How do I get rid of the annoying VM updates when I DO NOT have VM in the
first place?
I have not yet tried uninstalling VM as the advice of so many people. Seems
pointless to uninstall when I do not have Microsoft VM.

HELP???
