What type of problems are you experiencing on Windows Vista that are
preventing you from sticking with it?

Other than "just not liking it", are there any specific issues with it
that we can perhaps help you with?

But as for going back, all you need to do is boot from your existing XP
disk, and re-format the hard disk and re-install Windows XP. Just make
sure you have backed up your data first.

If you do not have an XP disk, then you'll need to purchase one.

If you had XP on the same machine previously, it should be relatively easy.
Here is a brief description of the process posted in another thread by Rick
Rogers:

<quote>
You have to remove the partition that Vista is installed on, then create a
new one, format it, and install XP. You should be able to do this by booting
the XP CD and running setup. At the point where you pick the installation
point, remove the Vista volume, create a new one, format and proceed.
</quote>

If you have a new computer that came with Vista installed, there are some
additional potential issues you should consider:
1. Drivers. You need to check to be sure that XP drivers are available for
the motherboard chipset, plus integrated and external peripherals.
2. Warranty. Replacing a factory-installed Vista with a different OS may
void your warranty and/or limit your right to technical support from the
manufacturer.

The usual caveats apply: back up all data, etc.

To install XP it's just a matter of booting from your XP cd and deleting
everything that's there...
then going ahead an doing the install...

However...with a few tweaks..chances are you could get Vista going the way
you like

What is it that you do not like? Because it is new? There are many people on
this group that can assist with Vista issues.

I have it on my laptop and I don't like it either. A lot of the folders
aren't in the same place as XP, I have a hard time finding certain things
like Add/Remove. It sometimes won't let me open files or delete them,
telling me I don't have the rights. I'm the only administer and I even
would say to open as administer and it still won't let me open it.

I'm glad I have XP on my main pC I just didn't have a choice with the
laptop.

Debbie;
Dell, Toshiba and possibly others of the major OEMs as well as local
shops continue to sell laptops and desktops with Windows XP..

Unless you waited to long, return the laptop and purchase one from a
seller that meets your needs.

A lot of people did not like Windows 95 when it replaced Windows 3.1 and some did not like Windows
XP when it replace Windows 98 because they were different, not bad, just different. Once you get
over hating to learn some thing new, you will find that it is just fine.
Your problem with files (open or deleting) then is an issue with ownership. MS is trying to reduce
complaints about poor security in the OS. Define your problem in this news group and someone will
help you.

Try the Vista search tool. It works well. There's a search box in Control
Panel that makes it easy to find stuff like Add/Remove.

Good luck,

Lang
