Upon turning off my computer last night a message came up:
"Installing update 1 of 2.
"Do not turn off or unplug your computer; it will turn off automatically."

It's now been running 10 hours. I have a fast machine with 512 MB of memory.

What's up?

If they are incharge why can't they make it work?

Hi,
Yesterday everytime I tried to restart or turn off my computer I got the
message
"Installing Updates (1 of 3)...
"Do not turn off or unplug your computer; it will turn off automatically."
And it stays there forever. I had to just hold the power button to shut it
down. The computer started up now, and I found your post. Do you have any
clues?
(I am running Windows XP sp2 Home Edition)
Any help would be appreciated~
Thanks,

Same problem here, went to restart and recieved this message. Took almost 11
hours to finish. This is happening on all workstations in the office. What
the heck is Microsoft doing now..?????? Also there doesn't seem to be a Event
created in the event log.

Anyone know what the updates are?????

Restart your computer and download the update from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...6-2C2264C49E2E

If the installation fails in the normal mode try it again in the safe
mode.

If you look in Installation History in WU you'll see (hopefully) that 3
updates were succesfully installed...we all got them. It's unfortunate some
of you have slow downloads though. The answer to that is go for a faster
web access.

Remove the updates. Use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control
Panel. Then reboot.

Download KB834707 form this site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...6-2C2264C49E2E
Close all running programs and install the Security Update.

Reboot.

Close all running programs again. Now visit the Microsoft website to
install the other updates.

Shut down your PC, delete temp files, cookies, temporary internet files and
follow further instructions here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

I had same problem and tried this, wasn't until I got to the step where you
had to unregister some files, reboot and reregister them that windows updates
worked. Hope this helps.
