How do I reinstall an update??

I installed a number of updates a couple of months ago,and things were ok
for a while...
Unfortunately, a virus let loose, and although now removed and am now
properly protected, a have some problems at odd times...
The toolbar freezes, and I cannot use the start button to access my
programs. And Windows Explorer will not start up at all....

I previously had the problem with explorer, but this seemed fixed after
installing the updates..

I would like to reinstall the updates, but windows update doesn't seem to
allow this - I cannot manually select the ones I want.
I have tried looking in the Add/remove program box to reomve them here
(with the idea of reinstalling after) - but they don't appear there.

The first folder in Windows, at least in my Explorer, is called
$hf_mig$. It contains every update you've ever downloaded. Although I
haven't had to reinstall, it seems as if each update in this folder
could be reinstalled.
Another approach is to get in touch with AutoPatcher at
www.autopatcher.com.
