How do I remove the Malicious software removal tool?

I repeatedly chose not to install the update for the Malicious software
removal tool but It installed anyway when I turned on the computer last
night. Is there anyway to uninstall it other than deleting the mrt.exe file,
of which there are two? It does not show up as an option using the control
panel or for uninstalling updates.

you don't mention what operating system you're on. in windows XP, in add &
remove programs, put a check mark on "show updates" and you'll see a lot of
other programs that's not listed there. you should be able to see the
installation dates for those programs too.

good luck.

There's nothing to remove/uninstall. It downloads, runs, and the just goes
away (assuming nothing's found).

The mrt file is all there is.
You can safely delete it.
It is not installed so it can not be uninstalled.

Some do not need the MSRT, others do, primarily those that do less
than they should at maintaining their computers. .

Same here. I already have a virus program, MSE, so I don't need or want this update. Isn't there some way to not get this update every month? Besides manually hiding it all the time or turning off all updates?

To avoid confusion, please begin a new thread about your specific problems
instead of hijacking someone else's thread. State your IE version and full
Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP2) in your first post.

PS: And post your question via this link, too:
