Hello,
I am using Windows Live Messenger 2009 and I have my brother listed as a
"mobile" contact and I don't want to buy SMS credits to text him.
So, How do I turn him back into a "normal" contact?
(The problem is I can't send him offline emotion!)

Right-click on his contact entry, select edit contact, and in the General
tab click the "Change number" button, delete the number, then save your way
out.

After Messenger syncs with your Windows Live contacts the mobile number may
be removed there as well. If you want to keep it then edit your Windows
Live (rather than Messenger) contact and use the form +1 (aaa) ppp-nnnn, or
just (aaa) ppp-nnnn. Messenger won't import this as a mobile contact
number. To top it all off, you could also delete that number from the allow
list in options/privacy.

btw, I'm not aware that you would need to purchase SMS credits, at least
not in the USA. When I use SMS from Messenger it has been free to me.

In the UK locale, they've made users purchase credits to use SMS on Messenger.

Which is just silly

Ahh. Thank you for the heads up. The various ways for charging for SMS are
a strange mix around the planet. One thing's for sure-I truly do appreciate
being able to do it from Messenger.

I have run into the same issue and I attempted to change the number and delete it using the method prescribed, but that did not work for me.

abd512, you can actually send a mobile contact an offline message by right-clicking on the contact and selecting "Send an offline instant message"; however, the inconvenience of having to do this has annoyed me also. I tried to delete the mobile number from the contact using the method specified but this has not fixed the issue for me. Is there another solution to removing the mobile status of the contact?
