I am assuming that vista creates a restore point every 24 hrs like xp
How do I restore to an earlier created point before the recommende
restore points, I do not seem to have an option to do this. I ca
restore back to my last software installation or the 2 recommende
restore points but before this no. In xp I could bring up the calende
showing all restore points

Hi,

When you start the restore process, in the first dialog box select "choose a
different restore point". In the next dialog, check the box at lower left to
"show restore points older than 5 days". If one of these options doesn't
exist, it means there are no restore points that fit those conditions.

If you've chosen to not accept the recommended restore point and are
looking at the screen where you can choose, you might see a tick box
in the lower area where you can have it show points older than 5 days.

If that's not available, what you see is what you get.

Restore points in Vista are HUMONGOUS compared to those in XP so you
will rarely see as many as you did in XP.

Hello Tony

When you go to do a System Restore, it will lists all of your restor
points that are not older that 5 days automatically. To see the rest o
them check the "Show Restore points older than 5 days" box

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76...estore-how.htm

However, System Restore will only store restore points up to it'
maximum storage size set for it. After that, the older restore point
will be replaced by the newer one

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76...disk-space.htm

Hope this helps

You should see an option to view restore points older than 5 days. If this
option isn't available then you can only restore back to the dates you have
available. System restore takes up considerable space so, depending upon
your available disk space, you may find that you are limited to dates you
can restore back to.

I much prefer to image my hard drive using Acronis True Image 2009. On my
machine system restore was turned off permanently the first day i installed
Vista.

You don't have a "box" because YOU DON'T HAVE ANY MORE RESTORE POINTS.

Restore points are only helpful if you need to go back a couple of step
and correct a faulty driver instalation or setup choice...

Major "Restoring" should be dealt with via a backup

After I installed windows, available service packs, and all the majo
software I need, I used "Acronis Disk Image" to create an image of m
working environment, and when all else fails I just restore from there

I had to do such a restore two weeks ago when windows explorer kep
crashing after an auto windows upgrade, and all the restore point
refused to be restored !!!

After the Acronis Restore all was back to normal. I had to update som
of software and keep all my documents in a safe place before hand, bu
it was easier than trying to install windows from scratch..
