how do i set media player as the defalt

i have been all over my computer trying to set media player as the defalt
player right now when i down load music to the meida player quicktime opens
up and it goes there

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults |
Custom + Down Arrow | Choose a default media player.

Also: Open WMP | Tools | Options | File Types | Select All.
