I did a reinstall on a friends PC (XP Home w/ SP1). When I fired up Windows
Update, it first downloaded a newer version, then it began downloading other
things. My friend only has a dialup connection. I noticed that the
download was taking forever, so I assumed it must be SP2. I got SP2 from a
CD and installed it. Two issues:

1. Anytime I reconnect to the internet, the download continues from where it
last left off. Is there anyway I can kill this? (I'm thinking that Windows
Update doesn't deal with the fact that I installed SP2 in the middle of the
download. I hope if I kill the download that it won't try to download it
again.)

2. I'm used to seeing a list of what Windows Update wants to download, and
being able to chose what it actually will download. I no longer see this
list. Is there any way I can get this functionality back?

Thanks!

bitsadmin would do this. In the XP Support Tools or from

<title>KB838079 - Windows XP Service Pack 2 Support Tools</title>

If you can't figure out the syntax from the help I think that someone
from MSFT has already posted more explicit instructions in this
newsgroup. Use bitsadmin and MSFT as search terms to find it.

You're probably doing an Express install? Try using the Custom link
instead then uncheck whatever you don't want to download.
