Do subinacl.exe and reset.cmd work on XP Home Edition SP2?

I've got Access Denied error when I've tried to update my XP Home Edition SP2
to SP3 because of the installation program cannot modify the registry. The
installation stopped with that error after 60% progress. Do you know if the
Microsoft tool (subinacl.exe and reset.cmd) does work on XP Home Edition too?
It seems to me (reading the Microsoft instructions) that it works on XP
Professional only. Is that true? Somebody tried that way on XP Home Edition?
And what can you say to me about the secedit.exe file, present in the last
line of reset.cmd script but not existing in XP Home Edition? Can the
reset.cmd work fine without secedit.exe file too? Help me please. Thaks in
advance.

Yes. See...

1.
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/re...in-windows-xp/
and...

2. Error message when you try to install WinXP SP3: "Access is denied" or
“Service Pack installation did not complete”

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

Diego,

See if this MSKB article helps:

Error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3: "Access
is denied" or “Service Pack installation did not complete”
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

Rather the resetting the Permissions suggest you pinpoint where the
Access Denied error is stemming from. Have you checked the svcpack.log,
located in WINDOWS ?

MS offers free support for issues associated with the application of
SP3: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...-us&prid=11273

At the top right next to United States, click the Change link and set
the country to Italy.

I' ve seen the link 1. Then, on my XP Home Edition, I have to cancel the last
line of the reset.cmd script (that one with the secedit command)? Thanks
again PA Bear.

I've tried several times to open a support in Italy, bat the data request
upload does'nt work. It starts then goes on for a half an hour and so on...
The Usa Help and Support works fine, but they answer to me to start a query
in Italy. The chat support in Italy is not available. That's all... Thanks and
kinds regards.

Diego ... You'll need to go back before the entries you've posted to
find the Access Denied error.
Check the setupapi and spupdsvc.logs, too. Just do a Find for "access",
wthout the quotes.
Remember, MS is offering free support, even in Italia <w>

Grazie Vincenzo!

Lo so, ma far funzionare anche l'help via email non sarebbe una cattiva
idea! Ho riprovato stasera con lo stesso risultato: il caricamento dei dati
continua all'infinito... Non facciamoci riconoscrere... Tra l'altro il mio
quesito mi pare abbastanza semplice!

I apologize, but this one is an italian problem.Have a good day.

Diego
