I am badly impaired following the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969897 "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP" of "2nd Tuesday" 09 Jun 2009.

I read somewhere that I can uninstall it using "CP > Add or Remove programs" but I couldn't find it.

I also remember that this can be done using "C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB969897$\spuninst\spunins t.exe" but I don't remember exactly if it is this or how I do, and I am afraid of any bad move I could do.

Anyone knows how? TIA,

CP > Add or Remove Programs

at the top there is a check box Show Updates

It will show updates installed if you check it.

Thx "Tae Song" for the prompt and helpful reply. Sorry for posting too fast: right after posting I found back:

- "https://update.microsoft.com > Review your update history" is the place where I had read "Note: To remove an update, go to Add and Remove Programs in your Control Panel"
- in my "CP > Add or Remove Programs" I had looked for something starting with "Cumulative", under "Internet Explorer" or "Microsoft" or "Windows". Only today when looking for "969897" did I find the proper item, that had quite another name. Being accustomed to MS I should have known that our dear MS often uses quite another name for the same object... ;-)

Thanks again "Tae Song" for your prompt and useful tip (which I outline in my msg title)

Now that you've uninstalled a *Critical Security update* it would
behoove you to contact the local Microsoft support center and have them
help you [ there is *no-charge* ] get the update installed.
The vulnerabilities that the update addresses *are* being actively
exploited:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS09-019 - Critical
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (969897)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS09-019.mspx

> Executive Summary
>
> This security update resolves seven privately reported vulnerabilities and one publicly disclosed
> vulnerability in Internet Explorer. The more severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code
> execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer.

The update addresses malware-linked Banner Ads, amongst other
vulnerabilities.

Remember, there's *no-charge* for support issues associated with
security updates.

Michel

Since you are located in France and you are probably using the XP N version I would
contact the local Microsoft Office for help in installing this critical update. It
is being actively exploited as Moe Green has also advised you.

Or you can try and re-install it yourself again by disabling your AV and other
Security programs (not the Windows Firewall ) along with your Internet connection
and then try to install it again

Thanks "MowGreen" and "Peter Foldes" for your help.

The uninstall didn't cure the problem so I re-installed it. I haven't found the cause yet and am still impaired (managing my ADSL box as I did until last week through http://livebox or http://192.168.1.1, is now 404-ed. The box does route Internet, TV and Tel without problem though; what I can't is managing my LAN, so my Multifunction printer, a Brother MFC-640CW, can no more be connected through RJ45 or WiFi, I have to connect it to a particular PC through USB2 then share it).
