Hi, I have windows 3.1 on my computer. It still covers all my basic needs so
I see no real reason to upgrade winodws. And mind you, i have observed my
friends that use win xp, 98. se. what ever, and I find that even though
windows 3.1 is 10+ years old, it has far less crashes. Recently though I came
across a site that needs flash and a new java, does any one know where to get
them for windows 3.1? And Ive had a few problems, it is a microsoft product
so its not perceft, and I need some tech on it. Where can I get at?

Thanks for the time, hope to get a reply back. Maybe microsoft can make a
version after longhorn that is as stable as windows 3.1. My friends XP was
freshly installed last week and XPs been giving lots of problems, usally a
crash a day on something.

WINDOWS 3.1 OWNS ALL!!

Microsoft no longer supports Windows 3.1 in any fashion.
It is considered an obsolete operating system.

Well its not so obsolete if I just need to make a querry about it. I think
the reason microsoft considers it "obsolete" is because it has less flaws in
it so theres no need to upgrade to a program that fixes the latest flaws, but
in turn creats more flaws.

Please stop trolling around.
Windows 3.1 is buggy as hell and built on an unstable 'kernel'. It's 16 bit,
it's ugly, and there are no drivers for recent hardware for it, nor is there
recent software for it, nor is it secure, nor is there a decent TCP/IP
implementation for it.

XP is a matured Windows built on a stable NT kernel and it doesn't have
flaws that make it crash.
If XP crashes, it's due to flaky hardware or unstable third-party
applications.

Obsolete is not really a good word.
If Windows 3.1 works for your needs, that is great.
However Windows 3.1 has long since past the end of its lifecycle and
thus there have not been any updates available for years.

If you need updates, you need something more current.

As for your friend, have him be sure all his hardware and software are
compatible with Windows XP:

#3 Upgrade Advisor can help a lot.
The latest drivers may help.
Memory, especially if there are dissimilar types, can cause such
issues.

Internet explorer is a 3rd party? Last I checked it was made by microsoft.
Its not unstable. I can use it for days on end without a single crash from
either the OS its self or the programs I run on it. I dont expect there to be
any recent softawre for it, maybe just a site with some old updates floating
around out there.
