New pc - a week old. When it goes to sleep I can't seem to wake it.
I've tried all keyboard keys, mouse clicks, alt-F4, ctrl-alt-del,
tapping the power button etc. I have even tried putting a cd or dvd
into the drive. Nothing works. I wind up having to hit the reset
button. Please help.

perhaps, the peripherals
don't have any power
to awaken the o.s. from
sleep.

go to control panel, devices
and right click the mouse and
keyboard devices and check
their power management settings.

Really. I'd surmise that since mouse clicks are specifically mentioned,
that the OP has probably tried that too.

Tell us about your PC. New, what model from where and whom? Are you sure the
PC isn't waking back up but your monitor is not? Make sure you have latest
video drivers, or if you upgraded the video drivers and this is the result
try reverting to original driver. Have you tried the escape key and a mouse
move?

If you have 'sleep' set up in Power Options, unset it, then use the 'sleep'
key on your keyboard.. a couple of side to side swishes with the mouse
should wake it up

CyberPower PC built to my spec.
Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit
Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
ATI Radeon 4870
Gigabyte Mobo
4GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Keyboard is a Saitek Eclipse II - USB
Mouse - older Logitech Laser - USB

Only a handful of software installs since purchase including:
Norton Internet Security 2009
OpenOffice.org
iTunes / Quicktime
Adobe Reader
Firefox
Roboform

This is only one of a number of problems. Others:
1. I get a black screen (not even a mouse cursor) when I attempt to
launch Windows Media Center.
2 When I do a hard reboot (something I have had to do alot) I get the
Windows Recovery Error screen where I should be able to boot in safe
mode. Unfortunately I cannot move the cursor up or down nor does the
enter key work. i just have to wait for the countdown and let it boot
normally.
3. On some occasions - following the entry of my login password the
screen goes black and I hear what appears to be a single annoying note
repeating itself from my speakers. This also caused me to have to hard
reboot.
4. Occasional lockup such that the mouse cursor doesn't move. I hae
been able to free this up by unplugging and plugging back in the usb
cable to the charging cradle for the mouse.
5. Ran a system performance report and all looked well except that the
report indicates that the security center does not recognize an anti
virus or firewall program running yet when I visit the security center
directly Norton is indicated as recognized.

There a a few others I am not thinking of but these are the primary.
Do I have a lemon or is this something I should be able to locate and
correct?

Did CyberPower issue any sort of compatibility assurance with the collection
of hardware you specified? Not that I can say anything is wrong, sometimes
certain configurations of good hardware don't play well together. My
personal experience with oddball issues like you are describing have been
due to video card issues. If you have an older less cutting edge video card
I'd try swapping that out to see if the problems go away. Or as mentioned
before get your hands on the signed released drivers and not what appear to
be beta drivers. I'd at least give CyberPower a call on Monday and see if
one of thier techs can give you suggestions.
