How do you delete hidden updates?

I applied Mowgreen’s solution to KB927978 – KB925672. The solution worked
for two days and then KB927978 and KB925672 kept being uploaded.

I have now placed them into hiding.

I am constantly being reminded of the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important

You've hidden important updates
You've asked us not to show you one or more high-priority updates but your
computer might be at risk until they are installed. Restore them now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not being offered these updates any more as they are hidden but how do
I get rid of them?

I like that, a direct and simple answer to my problem. Very easy to
implement.

Thank you

Yes, it's alway snice to get simple answers like "you can't" unfortunately
when MS is saying it, it's really just a politically correct way of saying
screw you.

Yeah, I know, I'm replying to my own message. Microsoft has been starting a
pattern where they don't ACTUALLY come up with solutions. They wait for
someone to give them the ideas on how to fix things then they either pass
them along to everyone else as their own ideas or Marketing hides them in a
vault to prevent people from getting the idea that they have idiots working
there. No, not all of their people are idiots but they definitely have some
and even in high level positions. Just enough of them and in the right places
to make all of them look bad. There are tons of posts from people really
getting mad or even just annoyed because of the option to "Not remind me
again" and then getting nagged about it. Instead of putting a huge pain the
butt display about hidden updates, just do this.

On the same line of the page where you see the link to install updates with
the estimated time and stuff, place a right justified piece that is the same
size and font. Go ahead and a SMALL exclamation icon and do it in yellow,
which says,

!You have ## Hidden Updates!

This serves your purpose of worrying about someone accidentally hiding an
update or deciding later to do an update but actually performs the operation
that you say you're going to do. Now before you go off on this because I said
they don't have original ideas, why is it this problem has so many posts yet
they can't come up with a simple solution like this?

Serge,

KB927978 mitigates a CRITICAL vulnerability that can be exploited with
no action by you. If you want to get this update installed I'll be more
than glad to assist you.

We'll need all pertinent information such as which steps you took to get
it installed/uninstalled plus which version of Windows the system is
running.

It's up to you.

Hi again,

You alredy posted an issue here about this " you have hidden updates", I
excplained already that it is a reminder for your convienience just in case
you might have a change of heart as people often do.

And you ansered me you LOVE MS, and there you go again criticizing the
reminder, so I still say buy a MAC or install a Linux Distro, because I get
the impression you just want to critize a piece of software made by man and
that just will never be perfect A known issue is that mankind is not
flawless: only God is perfect

Have a nice day and live long and prosper.
( Meaning and Origin:An abbreviated version of a traditional Jewish
religious blessing. The phrase, accompanied by a hand gesture, came to a
wider public in the Star Trek TV series. It was used there by the character
Mr. Spock (actor Leonard Nimoy, himself Jewish) as the greeting of the
Vulcan people)

Operating System: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

I have printed and followed the instructions from:

http://mowgreen.castlecops.com/archives/2007/01/

I made a small error where I deleted KB927978 first and then deleted
KB925672. Would that make a difference?

I then downloaded KB927978 from the Microsoft Website saved it and installed
it. Yes, I have the protection of KB927978.

1. I ran a check for any outstanding updates and there was none.

2. Two days later I was offered KB927978 and KB925672. I now have them set
up as Hidden Updates. They were never installed.

I have set the Automatic Updates to: “Notify me but do not automatically
download or install them”.

My question was how do I get rid of the hidden updates. Answer I can not.
Under your guidance I am quite prepared to start the whole procedure again.
I still have the downloaded update.

The issue *most likely* stems from either an incomplete installation or
a damaged MSXML package, Serge. Please try the steps that MVP Torgeir
Bakken recommends ... download the msxml.msi from here and Save it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Double click msxml.msi
You should now be presented with 3 options, Modify/ Repair/ Remove
Choose Remove.
If prompted to, restart the system
If not, then run the msxml.msi once more and it *should* install.

Then install the update, MSXML 4.0 SP2 [KB927978], by running
msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe
Restart the system

STRONGLY suggest that if you've done any work with the
printer/all-in-one prior to starting this installation 'process' that
the system be restarted so that no XML files are in use.

If this fails there will be a log file created in a randomly named
folder on the drive with the most free space, usually C:\.
Open the folder, open the log, and post back with it, please.

If this works, you can then unhide the update and it should *not* be
reoffered again.

I was never presented any options. A normal installation was made.

I had to uninstalled KB927978 first. Rebooted the system just in case and
installed the update msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe.

My system is now working normally. No need to use "Hidden Updates" to hide
the repeated uploading of unwanted updates.

Thank you very much.
