How do you delete old contacts

I can't delete old contacts that no longer connect with MSN IM. How can I
delete old contacts.
I get the error contact name could not be deleted. Please try again later.
Any help would be great.

Just to verify, you're trying to delete these off your main contact list (as opposed to the
Privacy screen's Allow/Blocked lists)?

As a workaround, you can use the Windows Live People screen to remove them:
http://contacts.live.com, sign in with the same Windows Live ID you use in Messenger and then
choose the - In Messenger link on the left to select people and delete them.
