Greetings,
You can get to the original icon by going here:
On XP:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\LiveID\ObjectStore\Custom Emoticons.
and on Vista:
\Users\username\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\ LiveID\ObjectStore\CustomEmoticons
Where username is your Windows username and LiveID is your Windows Live ID e-mail address.
Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.
The files themselves will be PNGs or GIFs, but to actually find the one you're looking for,
just open up Internet Explorer and drag the files to the IE window to locate the emoticon
you're after. You can then copy it over, rename it and edit it in the graphics application
of your choice.
