whilst you can get rid of some of it using the add/remove programs control
panel (or whatever it's called in vista), you will not be able to turn it
into a nice clean plain fast OS installation because the manufacturer will
likely as not have included branded versions of IE, other disk partitions,
spurious device drivers etc - if you go with dell you'll get the abomination
of media direct for example
luckily I have an MSDN subscription so if I get a new laptop I just
reinstall it with the vaniila OS from MSDN, and download only the drivers i
need
