The pre-beta version is exactly like Vista there is no disputing that. It
doesn't even have the so called 'eye candy' you refer to so the 'fanboys' as
you put it can't 'wet their pants' because they haven't seen or used the
latest build. Only time will tell how the new features of Windows 7 will pan
out.
When I first used the pre- beta I made my feeling known to Microsoft that I
wasn't impressed. But then how could I be when the build I have is way
behind the one currently being used by Microsoft developer's.
Now that I have been using it on a regular basis I can see some of the
improvements, but I will reserve judgement until the 'official' beta builds
start to come on stream in 2009.
As for Windows 7 pre-beta 'breaking' things the only thing that doesn't
install on my system is Nuance paperport and that is because it is looking
for Vista SP1 and can't find it. Other than that slight glitch, and it is
only slight (it is also a Nuance problem not Microsoft's) I am running the
same software on Windows 7 as I am on Windows Vista.
And one other important point, considering that this is a pre-beta build the
build is extremely stable; far stabler than any early beta of Windows Vista.
