Do your contacts get stored online...so I can login anywhere?

Can I login to messenger anywhere and have access to my contacts and their
info I've entered or do I have to save a file on my computer? I have file
for backup purposes, but...

your contacts are stored on the live server-- that is why when you wipe your
system and do a clean install and then install Messenger again , your
contacts load right up and your back in business.
