Documents Folder Haywire

I used the Location tab to move the Documents folder onto another drive. I
am going to make a guess that I didn't handle the conflict between the
desktop.ini files correctly (which MS ought to do automatically) and so the
Documents folder is basically non-functioning and without a Location tab.
Does anyone know the fix?

Hi Tony,

Did you move the "Documents" folder to an external drive? Can you check if the Path is reachable, and the drive-letter of the external drive hasn't changed?

I just moved the Documents folder to another partition on my hard drive.
The actual path is the root of my D drive (D:\).

Sorry I didn't answer your questions more directly. To be explicit, the
drive letter has not changed and I can still reach it from everywhere.
Thanks. I just need to get Vista to be happy with Documents pointing there
which it is not. I used the Location tab to move the folder over, and the
only glitch I can think of is that when Vista told me there was a conflict
in the desktop.ini files and I told it not to copy, since Vista did not tell
me that I should, it must have needed that file. --Tony

Rather than moving it to D:\ root, create a folder in D:\ (say D:\My Documents) and move it there. In this case, you'll have to change the path via the registry.

Note: Don't use "Method 1" for this situation. Use the steps listed under "Method 2: Using Registry Editor" and update the shell folder path for the value named "Personal". Also, create the destination folder (D:\ My Documents), and the move the document files to the new location manually.

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
