I would really appreciate someones help here!

I turned on my computer yesterday, tried to open my Documents folde
and that is the message I get (in the subject).

So Windows or something has seemingly robbed me of all my Documents!
would really appreciate help in recovering this folder if possible.

I have tried going to the Backup and Restore centre, which says ther
are no backups of files on this computer.

I have also tried from here to do a System Restore, but in attemptin
this I get the message:

"The disk Vista (C has errors.

Windows has detected file system corruption on Vista (C. You mus
check the disk for errors before it can be restored."

I then click the option to check the disk for errors, before it inform
me that it cannot do this while the disk is in use and schedules one fo
when I next start windows, yet when I restart nothing seems to hav
been checked and my Documents folder is still corrupt and missing!

Would really appreciate some help here!

Thank you in advance

This sounds very much like your hard drive may be going bad. Go to the
manufacturer's site and see if they have any disk checking software. If
they do: run it. An overnight test would be good.

To find out who the manufacturer is, try going to the properties page of
the device in Device Manager under Disk Drives (make sure you get the
right one if you have more than one).

1. Boot with a rescue CD such as a Bart's PE or Knoppix (Linux) and retrieve
data that wasn't backed up. Copy it to an external hard drive or, if it
will fit, to a USB thumb drive.

2. Run a diagnostic utility from the hard drive mftr. (or use Seagate's
SeaTools For DOS) to make sure the hard drive isn't failing. If the
diagnostic shows any physical errors, replace the hard drive.

3. Try running Chkdsk from outside the operating system using your Vista
installation DVD. This link has pictures:

If you don't have a real Vista DVD, then you can use this:

Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download:
http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/window...disc-download/

4. If the hard drive is physically healthy and doing #3 doesn't help, then
you can try running Vista's version of a Repair Install:

Repair A Vista Installation Using The Upgrade Option Of The Vista DVD -
http://tinyurl.com/3b7yrj

And if that doesn't work, you will need to do a clean install of Vista (or
return your computer to factory condition if it is an OEM machine). There
is no way for me to know why you got the corruption. Malware, power
outages, and physical problems can all be factors.

Wow these suggestions seem all very complex to me. I have a 3 year
warranty on this machine, its a Toshiba P300-150 is it worth ringing
them up about it, or is it something to do with Vista?

No one here can answer that without doing hands-on testing of the machine.
If you don't want to do the testing (and that's perfectly OK), then back up
your data and send the machine back to Toshiba.
