Enthusiasts would know what hardware spec they would need for all of the
bells and whistles. The biggest problem facing enthusiast upgraders is the
price of the software..

Also, enthusiasts would not have been buying the lowest spec machines and
expecting them to run all of the bells and whistles. Nobody with even a
modicum of intelligence would.

To you, MS can do no wrong. From the article:

"That suit, which was granted class-action status just over a week ago,
claims Microsoft deceived consumers. According to the plaintiffs,
Microsoft knew that a large number of computers tagged with the "Vista
Capable" sticker would be able to run only Vista Home Basic, the
entry-level version that omits some of the operating system's
most-heavily touted features, including Aero, the flashy user interface."

I don't think that MS never does wrong, but I do think that end users, not
just of Microsoft products incidentally, are part responsible for all of it
too.

One can't expect a $400 cheapie to do what a $2000 high end does. The class
action lawsuits, so popular in the US, are the result of end users wanting
to shift the blame for what they bought and get rich quick all at the same
time.

Of course, the lawyers love it, don't they. Long protracted cases where they
do ever so much better than anybody else..

While somebody gets recompense for the crappy cheap computer they bought,
the lawyers are set up for life.. the Great American Dream where the end
justifies the means..

uncommon in big business..

You can crawl back under the rock you crawled out from under, under the
*bridge* your sitting on, and you can take Alias with you.

Thing of it is mike, most people don't have any idea when it comes to any
of this and it isn't because they are necessarily stupid (though I admit,
sometimes that is the case). But still, I know lots of people who are
quite intelligent but when it comes to any kind of computer hardware have
absolutely no idea how it works.

Like for instance, if they call me with a problem and my first response
is "How much memory do ya have?" and they come back with "Uhhh, about 500
gigs" followed by a response from me "I meant your RAM, not your hard
drive space..." followed by "Uhh...I don't know...what is RAM?"

And just because they can't differentiate their hard drive capacity from
RAM doesn't make them stupid. They might be extremely skilled and good at
whatever else it is they do in life, computers just simply isn't that
thing.

Let me ask you a question Mike.

When you buy the car, do you know how it's internal works?

Do you know how the engine works? How does your engine's ignition timing
affect it's performance? What kind of ignition system do you have? What
kind of spark plugs? How does your transmission work? How does your EGR
system work? How does it's electrical system work? What kind of data bus
(es) is/are used inside to communicate between your cars various
components?

I could keep going with questions...how well can you answer those about
your car? Can you, like me, answer each question with complete accuracy
and detail or do you do what most people do: Trust and rely the
manufacturer to provide you with the necessary information needed to make
a good decision without needing to know all the above details?

Coincidentally, that's also what most people do when buying a Computer,
toaster, oven, desk lamp....

I agree that nobody should go ignorant through life, and too many people
go do just that, however...nobody can be an expert at everything.
