I have the yellow update icon in my task bar. I want to get rid
of this update because it doesn't install. How do I do that???

Thanks,
OMEd

Use the Help? ; )

E.g. Run... control wuaucpl.cpl
then search for: decline* OR stop

E.g. that search finds the article:
<title> To stop windows from notifying you about updates
that you have already decided not to download or install
(hide updates)
</title>

Hmm... actually that page is missing something important I think.
You probably see Express Install defaulted. So you have to
click on Custom Install and Next to see the dialog that article
is referring to in its Step 2. (Ok. That's referred to in a separate
article titled "Review and install downloaded updates".
Found by searching for "express".)

BTW care to disclose which update you are blocking? <eg>
Perhaps a better course of action would be to diagnose
why you are having problems with it? ; )

The update that didn't install was for Office 2003's Outlook and
junk e-mail filters. I don't use Outlook for e-mail. Thanks for other
help; I found 'hide' and the icon no longer appears in my trask tray/bar.
Still think there's something on my HD that needs to be deleted.
Thanks again,
OMEd

I'm not sure when it gets deleted. It will be in the SoftwareDistribution
subdirectory if it's still there. I do know that if you do unhide it that a fresh
download will be done, so I suspect it will be gone already.

In order to find out for sure you could monitor SoftwareDistribution
with FileMon as you request changes via AU or WU.
