How does one get Live Messenger to work at all?

I cannot get Messenger to recognise any contacts. I have successfully
re-made my contacts list manually - which should not have been required
according to your literature. However, despite listing my contacts in its
window, Live Messenger refuses to recognise any of them as valid contacts for
searching or connecting in a conversation.

I am guessing that this is a server/network problem and that contacts are
kept on the server - hence no contacts? Wouldn't it be nice if any of the
error messages or the help would actually say so??????????????????????????????

I have also had repeated problems sending feedback - server not found.
i.e. I CANNOT SEND A FEEDBACK MESSAGE ABOUT THE SERIOUS FLAWS WITH THIS
APPLICATION BECAUSE FEEDBACK DOESN'T WORK EITHER. Now do you see why I might
be irate?

Yes, I have turned off my firewall and both problems persist. Yes, my
network connection works for everything else. Yes, I have found the
confessions in
your blog and followed the firewall steps. I have a Norton 2006
firewall. No, your fixes do not change the behaviour of Live Messenger.

Gee, this program works so much better than Windows Messenger. I now have
the ability to converse with no one, whereas with Windows Messenger I could
only talk with everyone. That's progress. I'm so fed up I'm going to
uninstall this well-QAed application and suggest that my friends to do it
also. Unless, of course, a new version could be released that actually works
as advertised and that absolutely anyone can install and get working. Now
there's a challenge for you; my gauntlet is laid down and waiting...

if you think messenger is bad.. wait till you see vista.....

you'll be jumping around like a kangaroo...
