Does Overclocking YOur CPU cause problems with your activation?

I overclocked my cpu this morning and it worked great but then I
noticed in the taskbar something about volume activation failed or
something like that - I did not see it until the system was shutting
down. I re-booted, turned off the overclocking and after Windows
booted I checked the computer properties - everything seems okay and
my operating system is still activated.

It is truly a sad day if overclocking your cpu causes your activation
to fail.

If you over clock then results are unpredictable.
Even if the system appears to be stable there is a small chance it will
still do something odd (there is even if you don't over clock but its much
less) and there is little checking done by desktop PCs that will catch it,
servers have things like parity/ecc that may catch odd things before
anything serious like corrupted data happens.
Having said that you probably misread something and it was fine being over
clocked.
You can over clock it again if you want but make sure you have a backup, M$
aren't going to care if you over clock it..

Overclocking has NO effect on activation.

Try again and see what happens. My system is overclocked and I did it AFTER
I installed Vista U, NO PROBLEMS.

I started overclocking with the Celeron 300 -> 450 so I am aware of
the pitfalls.

Yes I did not have much time to read whatever it was before it
disappeared. I don't know how M$ activation checks your system but I
had 2 days to call M$ when I just changed a video card. If something
like that happens everytime I change the cpu/memory speed then it is
going to be a real pain.

Overclocking may have unpredicatable results to be sure, but activation
problems is not one of them.

Problems with activation--call the number on the activation wizard
appropriate to your area or just call MSFT and ask for activation.

ram shouldn't affect your ram in this way only overclock, i had mine
overclock from a 400mhz to 550mhz and it was fine but like she or he
said(sorry i read quickly didn't notice) some pc aren't happy being
overclock, and overclocking something will make them wear faster than
normal, although tey might last long they're life span is being shorten
slowly at a time, just imagine making your granpa run the maraton untill he
dies, he won't last long unless she was healthy and strong during his whole
life

I had no activation issues with may overclock Core2 4300 and Windows
Vista Home Premium. I've overclocked it from 1.8 GHz to 3.0 GHz.

how much more you overclock it makes a difference too may be for example me
if instead of going from 400 to 550 i had gone 400 to 600 i might have
gotten problem, the other thing if i remember well is the speed of the
cpu(the frequency) has to be compatible with the ram too. if you talk too
fast to the ram, the ram might not work properly, it's a mix of things that
could've done what it did
glad it working
