Greetings Scott,
The posts you're reading are wrong, of course it supports Remote Assistance. However, for
the feature to work, Windows Messenger (not Live) needs to be installed too.
However, if Windows Messenger isn't installed, it would prompt you do so; you would not be
able to click the Accept link.
Regardless, this sounds ridiculous but have you simply tried rebooting?
