I used to have to 'tattoo' replacement motherboards to show the HP Logo &
allow the installation by the HP Restore disks.
No Tattoo, no installing from the CDs.
The new motherboards ate 'tattooed' at the factory.
I'm sure Dell has a similiar system.
I wonder if you got a surplus board originally intended for shipment to
Dell.
On my XP systems, it's a registry entry that determines what displays in the
Manufacturer section.
My home built systems show "For Support, Go Find GrandPa!" LOL
