Nowhere in my list of updates can I find any service packs for any of the
os's. I can find service packs for other products like office, but not for
the OS's. Window WSUS FAQ indicates WSUS support Service Packs. Although I
am using a downstream server in my organisation (and I don't administer the
upstream server) to get my updates, Even if my upstream server doesn't
download the full service packs, it should still report that they are
available ... yes?????

What I mean is Service Packs for my client machines. I want WSUS to provide
Services Packs to the OS's of my Client machines. I would have thought if
they are available that they would come down whether or not all my machines
had the latest service packs. For other updates it says that the update is
installed even though it was on the machines before set it up to check the
WSUS for updates.

Hi,

Not if the admin of the upstream server have not selected to
synchronize the metadata for Service Packs (default it is not).

Note that SP4 for Win2k is under "Update Rollups" and not "Service
Packs", from a previous post by me in the WSUS newsgroup:

<quote>
Yes, WSUS is able to provide SP4 to Win2k SP3 computers.

Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 is categorized under "Update Rollups"
at the WSUS server. Verify that you have selected "Update Rollups"
under update classification.

In the WSUS admin console:

Options --> Synchronization Options --> Press the "Change..."
button under "Update classifications" --> Select "Update Rollups" if
not already selected.

If it was not selected, save the settings, then do a new sync.

Afterward, to locate SP4 for Win2k, you can create a custom view that
includes "Update Rollups", and you can use the following search text:

Service Pack 4

And a FYI:

Please post WSUS related issues to the newsgroup dedicated to WSUS:
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

(the microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup is for SUS)

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...pdate_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access this new
group:

Clicking on this link should open this group in OE:
