Hi,

Recently I noticed that I can't run Windows Update anymore on our 5
servers. 2 Domain Controllers, 3 member Servers. All servers are
Windows 2003 Server SP2.
When I run Windows Update from the start menu it says "windows update
was disabled by your system administrator" and when I use the website
it says "Network policy settings prevent you from using this website
to get updates for your computer".

The strange part is that in the GPO that are linked to these servers,
there is NO policy defined whatsoever wich prevents access. And now
the strange part.....

When I log into a member server with the LOCAL administrator account,
I CAN run Windows update! So does this mean the problem is related to
the domain administrator account somehow??

Can anybody give advice please?

Regards,

Mike van Gestel

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I found this after a long long search and this did the trick! THANKS
TIM SPRINGTON!

There is a setting in group policy at User Configuration-
>Administrative

Templates->Start Menu and Taskbar called "Remove links and access to
Windows
Update". It sounds like it is configured in some policy you are
processing
for those users.

I had some trouble with the gpresult/rsop output since it is
localized, but
it looks like you would want to look in the above setting location in
the
policies below:

Please let us know if that does not help.
