Hi-

As the subject states. I have a domain account with elevated privs. When
changing a password on a Windows 2003 Active/Passive cluster do you haft to
use cluster.exe? Can you manually go into services and update the password?

From what I've read so far, if you use the cluster.exe method it doesn't
require any downtime/outages. I cant find any information on the manual
method if it requires anything besides changing the service password.

Hi,

You can reset the password and retype this in the services.msc and restart
that service. But indeed that's downtime.

Just use cluster.exe to reset and you'll have no downtime. What's the problem?

Patrick

Yes I agree that the PW should be changed with the cluster.exe and not via
services. But, if the PW was changed via services and the service restarted,
does the cluster group need to be brought offline? I'm asking as after our
last password change (I wasn't responsible for the change this time) I
experienced some issues when rebooting passive nodes. After I rebooted a
node, the service wouldn't join the cluster group no matter what I tried. It
wasn't only until I brought the cluster group completly offline could the
node rejoin the cluster. I tried to search to see what happens if you change
the PW on a cluster node via services and not have the Cluster service start
and successfully rejoin the cluster.
