"Don't show this update again" does not work

Using Custom Updates, I have been checking the "Don't show this update again"
box for Silverlight. But it alway reappears each time I run Custom Updates. I
get the same thing on Office 2007 updates, and I don't have and have never
had ANY Office 2007 program on my PC.

Unlike other posters, the "Don't show this update again" is NOT grayed out
at any time, but is always available... It just doesn't work.

As to Silverlight, just ignore it. The optional updates are not checked for
installation by default as the high priority updates are, so you don't have to
do anything to not install it. If someone knows which file or registry entry
stores the "Don't show this update again" setting we might find a better answer.

Do you have this path listed on your system? "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12". If so, you probably have the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack
for Office 2003. Attempting to open a Word 2007 .docx file with Word 2003 will
provide a link to install the compatibility pack, which is probably what you or
someone using your machine has done.

Silverlight updates are a true PIA. Just keep hiding them.

Is Office Compatibility Pack SP1 or SP2 along with Word Viewer, Excel Viewer
or PowerPoint Viewer?

im having the same plm with my new tower and know cant get off my pc . i had
a dell poeple looking at it and it is still not fix .

Perhaps if instructions on how to obtain that were included...

Start button --> RUN
(no "RUN"? Press the "Windows Key" + R on your keyboard)
--> type in:
winver
--> Click OK.

The picture at the top of the window that opens will give you the general
(Operating System name) while the line starting with the word "version" will
give you the rest of the story. Post _both_ in response to this message
verbatim. ;-)
