I don't use Office 2007

I uninstalled office 2007 but vista updates still downloads and installs
updates/fixes.

How can I stop this from downloading office updates?

I do use Word and PowerPoint 2007 viewers.

Stop using the viewers as well if you don't want updates. (Uninstall them.)

Thanks for the information. I guess I would be correct in assuming by your
answer that if I have the viewers installed and not the actual applications
I get all of the office updates.

In the real world I WILL get word doc's from people so it would not be
practical to remove the viewers if I want to view this information.

If you are going to use the applications and/or their miniature versions -
expect to get the patches that remedy issues associated with said
applications and/or their miniature versions. ;-)

Not sure why you decided to put your answer in such a manner ("In the real
world I WILL"), but I assure you - we all live in the "real world" and not
everyone receives Microsoft Word Documents. For those that do - you are
correct - you need *some way* to open/view them. For some people, they also
need a way to open/edit/save them. I suppose in your case - you only need
to view them - and the viewers *really are* the best way to ensure you see
things as intended - but are not, by any means, the only way. ;-)
