double click?

before my grandkids arrived,i could double click any icon on the desktop and
it would open, now i have to right click it to open

System Restore should be able to fix it.

When you right click, is "open" the default/bold option?

It sound like you may have reversed the mouse button functions in th
Mouse Properties window. This tutorial will show you how to check an
switch it back to the left (Primary) button if this is the case
