I had posted this at another group but got no help, maybe here, with
additional info:

I had recently signed up on the net for windows.live email while still
running Vista because it was my understanding that W7 had no mail program.
Somehow that mail program started sending out my mail with a .live address
and not my windows mail .cox.net address. Things got more confusing for me
after I downloaded W7 and seen there was an internal email program after all
that looks pretty much like windows mail! I configured it to read and send
from my cox.net email client but was still getting mail from the Internet
account. So I added the .live account and now I'm receiving email (the same
email) in both accounts! And people are getting email from me with the
..live address and not the .cox.net address that I prefer. How do I disable
the .live account and just receive and send from the .cox.net account. I
know I caused all this but windows is somewhat at fault by telling there
would be no email with W7. So my problem is I'm receiving email in both the
windows.live account and the SAME email in the cox.net account which are
both on my windows.live desktop. Is there a way to get ALL my email just to
the cox.net account and have that address (cox.net) as the sending address.
TIA

Let's just not address the issue with Vista and WLM since you are now on W7
.. . . . W7 does not have an email program of its own, but that doesn't mean
you didn't get WLM downloaded with your W7. I didn't "download" W7 so I'm
not sure how Microsoft setup the download - if they included WLM. (But I am
running W7 and have WLM installed.) If you look at the top title bar it
should say it is WLM.

Go to Tools - Accounts and select the .cox account and select the button to
the right to make it the "Default" account. That fixes sending as your .cox
account. If you ever want to send from the .live account you can do so by
clicking the "From" line in the email compose screen.

Since Windows Live Mail is your "mail handler" all of the emails from the
..cox account are going to populate under that account in your general mail
view. If you don't want to have them in both places, you can go to Tools -
Accounts - select the .cox account - Properties - Advanced Tab - in bottom
pane, UNcheck "keep a copy on the server" . . . . . they will no longer be
stored on the .cox account server, but will still show up in WLM under the
..cox account.

The "Default" account setting applies when you are reading emails in Quick
views.
If you are reading emails in an account, that account that will listed in
From when you click New.
