Doubled Favorites Folder

Basically, after trying to change the Favorites menu item in the Start
menu into a link to the Videos folder, I've messed up something deeper
in Vista that causes it to display two Favorites icons in my user
folder, like so:

The problem is, when I delete one, the other is deleted as well, like
they are linked. I'd like to fix whatever the problem is, but I'm not
sure where to even begin for this.

I noticed, that if I create a new user account, that new user only has
one Favorites folder. I think that helps to narrow the potential
trouble spot a bit.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Kyang,

What exactly did you do (in the registry?) to replace Favorites link with
Videos?

Ah, I didn't edit the registry directly, but I think whatever I did mus
have affected it somehow

I also don't remember actually being able to completely turn th
Favorites folder into a Videos link either. All that happened was th
folder was renamed into "Videos", but it stayed as a menu rather than
link, like the links to Pictures or Music links already on the star
menu

What I did was just right click on the Favorites folder, and entere
properties. I then clicked on the "Location" tab, and navigated to th
Videos folder, and clicked "OK"

I then received this prompt
[image

I clicked "No", and, just like the message said, I had two Video
folders displayed. I thought that if I just redirected the locatio
back to the Favorites folder, the two entries might return to just one.
Instead, I found now I had two Favorites folders displayed

Since the files in the Videos folder were more important to me than th
files in the the Favorites folder, I've left it this way, and have bee
trying to fix it, in "On again, off again" attempts ever since

You may need to fix the "Favorites" shell folder path in the registry. See:

Thank you very much. That link helped me solve the problem.

In the Registry, the User shell folder entry for Videos was pointed at
Favorites. Once I changed it back to Videos, only a single Favorites
folder is displayed.

Thank you again.
