Doubling of song titles

Hello everyone,

I ripped my 500 CDs into a network HD and use Window Media to play the
songs. Unfortunately, Media has managed to "double" all of my song titles.
Not the files themselves but just the titles. When you open an album, all
songs all there twice. Two of song number 1, two of 2 and so on.

How did it double? How do I get rid of that?

Thanks for the help

What version of WMP and Windows?

This could happen if the same folder is monitored twice by WMP, for
example, if both C:\Media and C:\Media\Music are in WMP's list of
monitored folders.

Another possibility is that WMP's media library got corrupted. To reset
it, follow the instructions for your WMP version at
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#library
Note that resetting the library will make you lose all current play
counts, and possibly ratings too.

Regards

I wondered about this, but would it add tracks twice when they were,
in fact, the identical files?

I was wondering about Junction points in the filesystem (where a
folder can appear at two distinct locations). This would at least give
the impression that they were distinct files, because the paths would
be different.

My apologies, that link should have been
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary instead.

I haven't tried or experienced this myself, but I guess that it's a
possibility.

Then it's the responsibility of the creator of the junction point to
know that this could happen and to fix this I don't think that there
are a lot of everyday computer users who have created junction points.
