Is there any way to downgrade a Server 2008 R2 installation to R1? We have a
vendor that revealed their product will not work on R2 after we installed the
server. Thank you.

Hello Steven,

Yes, it is possible. See here if your version is supported and how to do it:

Well, that tells me that I can downgrade the license, but I need to know
"how" to downgrade OS. Thanks.

Hello Steven,

If you expand the "Obtaining Product Keys and Media for Previous Versions"
in the webpage you see.

Did you originally install the server with 2008 RTM / SP1 and then upgrade
to R2 or just install R2 from the get go?

Hmm...must be me as I still don't see a "how to." However, I already have the
media and valid VL key for R1, so how would I go about doing this? Is there
extra software I need or do I just install the R1 over the top of R2? Thanks
again.

I don't think you're going to be able to "inplace downgrade". I would
recommend wiping and reinstalling with RTM/SP1 for technical and
supportability reasons - both the vendor and Microsofts.

Hello Steven,

There is no way to degrade the existing Windows server 2008 R2, use the media
for Windows server 2008 and install from scratch. Sorry if i understand your
question not complete.
