downgrade vista ultimate back to xp pro

I had xp pro on my laptop (a Lenovo r52) and made a crack braine
decision to install Vista ultimate on it. Rot in Hell School Tec
Support Team! You know who you are! Eventually IE 7 decided to join i
and make my life miserable. I did succeed in rooting out all bits o
IE7, but cannot find anywhere to reinstall it, because it is assume
that (a) IE7 is infinitely stable and any glitches that may be perceive
will be handled by Microsoft and (2) IE7 cannot be uninstalled from
Vista OS and see (a)

Well, I have 2 problems. I do need to downgrade vista ultimate back t
xp pro, but failing that, need to reinstall a good version of xp b
Blackboard does not play well with Firefox or other browsers.
Suggestions

IE7 in vista is part of the operating System and can not be deleted, or
downloaded again to be repaired/reinstalled.

You can try using the System File Checker above to repair the Vista OS, and
parts thereof.

If you want to go back to XP Pro, it has to be done with a clean install of
XP.
Or, you could dual-boot Visat and XP Pro

Or you can set XP up in a Virtual Machine on tha computer.

Wow, where do I start with this one? First of all, barbarafsmith it is more
than obvious you may not really have had the skills to do the upgrade to
Vista. With that said, why are you qualified to know that you should
"downgrade" from Vista to XP on your laptop and why are you sure that Vista
is the source of your problem? It sounds to me like you went to the better OS
but it didn't install right and you probably made it worse by tring to get
rid of IE 7. Why in the world did you think IE 7 was your problem?

Next, the Microsoft MVPs here really failed at a chance to educate someone.
There is so much mis-understanding about Windows Vista it's really amazing.
The funny thing is the people that don't like it or claim it's buggy are the
ones that aren't really qualified to say so. The truth is, and this is not
disputable, it's one of the most advanced operating systems on the planet,
and best performing since SP1.

Barbara I highly recommend you stay with Vista but do a clean install and
have someone do the install who knows what they are doing for a change.

Whoa up, JB..

The OP wants to revert back to XP Pro on which she probably ran IE6. All of
her stuff probably ran very well and she had gotten used to the quirks of XP
and IE6.

Why do you think that any of us are going to succeed where the School Tech
Support Team failed?

The only two problems mentioned by the OP relate to IE7 and Blackboard
(Academic Suite).

Vista will not run IE6 and, by the OP's admission, other browsers do not
work for her.

Blackboard does apparently have support for Vista, but the OP has obviously
seen fit not to follow that up, preferring instead to revert to XP where
everything last worked well..

I agree with you that Vista is better than XP, and I would never ever go
back to using it, but not everybody feels that way. Some would rather stick
with what they know than take the step forwards to something better..
