Downgrading Vista to XP

Has anyone switched from Vista to XP without losing all the programs
and settings? I am seriously thinking about this since I am sick and
tired of Vista problems with sleep/hibernation. My computer HP
DV6000 will not stay asleep more than few minutes. I tried every
possible solution suggested to no avail.

thanks

No, that's not possible. Downgrades aren't supported. The only way for you
to get to XP is by doing a clean installation of it.

By the way, if yours is a relatively new computer, make sure that XP drivers
exist for all its components. If not, you wan't be able to run XP on it.
This is more likely to be an issue if yours is a laptop.

Hi,

You need to look at what software is running actively in the background, in
particular your antivirus and antimalware products. My DV6000 has no
problems whatsoever with sleep mode under Vista. If those products are
running active scanning or are set to run scans after a period of non-use,
it will inhibit Vista's ability to sleep. Also make sure that you are using
the most recent driver releases from HP, especially the video adapter (the
older nvidia ones were problematic to say the least).

One way to ensure upgrade success is to run the Easy Transfer app on the XP
install previous to the upgrade

Use the "Ratings" feature. It helps the new users.

I don't know that, but the question seemed to me to be how it could be done.

No I haven't heard anything from any official source saying that Vista
is "kapput". Nor do I anticipate such a stupid statement.
I've heard from the linux trolls, FUD spreaders and losers (like you),
but they are all full of ****.

What a pity.

You still haven't answered my original question about Windows 7.
