1. Check with the laptop mftr. regarding whether this voids your
warranty. Make your decision accordingly.
2. Check with the laptop mftr. regarding downgrade rights and if they
support them. If they do, then get an XP recovery disk for that laptop
if recovery disks are the way the laptop mftr. provides the ability to
return to factory condition.
3. If the laptop mftr. doesn't support downgrade rights and/or doesn't
have a recovery disk for XP on the machine, go to the laptop mftr.'s
website and make sure there are drivers and laptop-specific software for
XP for your model. If there are no drivers and laptop-specific software,
forget about putting XP on the machine.
4. If the laptop mftr. does provide XP drivers, etc. but doesn't have a
recovery disk for XP you can still install XP but you will need to
purchase a full retail copy of XP for the laptop. Then back up all your
data and do a clean install per:
