Windows Update downloads the latest files. Then it displays the message
"Download and install the latest updating software" "Copying Files: 100%... " and does not go any further. I have waited 12 hours with no progress. The computer is not busy, and is not locked up. |

i am having exactly the same problem tried several of the "fixes" no help

Hello Don,
Just out of interest. What version of Windows are you using? Not sure, but if you don't mind can you tell me what Ant-Spyware programs you have and what anti-virus, firewall you are running. Any clues in the System events log you can see? Please post your windowsupdate.log file here. Windows XP SP2 AVG Free, Spybot - Search and Destroy, SpywareBlaster, Windows Firewall A Search of my computer didn't find any file called Systems events log or similiar. The ReportingEvents log doesn't have any entries for when I am trying to do this download. Here is more than 30 lines of the windowsupdate.log file for the last time I tried to update. im also having the same problem wh xp sp2 windows firewall and agp anti virus

by another process Either Spybot is installed with TeaTimer enabled or the installed antivirus software will not allow the files to be updated. If the latter is the cause of the issue you'll need to completely disable the AV for now in order for the required updating files to be updated. I tried this "solution" It does not work for me at all!
I don't have Spybot and I did disable my AVG version 8.0.169 fully licensed version. I am using SP2 since SP3 suddenly (and completely out of the blue) made it impossible to access my CD/DVD-ROM drives. ALL OF THEM! I backed out SP3 and it DID NOT HELP the CD-ROM issue and introduced this inability to update problem. The update installer on the update website will not even install! What the heck is going on??!!
