Download and install updates and they appear again and again...

Quick version:
I was having problems booting up so I ran Windows XP Installation CD
and repair program. Computer seemed to be working O. K. so I began
process of d'lding and installing Windows Updates.
After installing updates, and restarting my computer, the SAME list of
updates would appear again!

Here is a sample of the event log...
Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for
installation. To install the updates, an administrator should log on
to this computer and Windows will prompt with further instructions:
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB923689)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB905749)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB908531)
- Update for Windows XP (KB916595)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB943485)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB935840)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB900725)
- Update for Windows XP (KB942763)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB920670)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB925902)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB896358)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB936021)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB920685)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB927802)

I d'ld and install updates and then they appear again as needing to be
d'lded and installed.

Any suggestions???

1. Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or
by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation
