Download but won't install

We are running a new installation of windows 2000 pro on a clean drive.
When we attempt to download and install updates, the download seems to
complete succesfully, but the installation allways fails with no error number
(This windows udate was unable to install succesfully).
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
