I had the same problem on 4 XP-PRO PCs.
If MS is in fact controlling the release of updates to avoid server congestion, it would be nice if once you slected "download updates now", they left the yellow sheild visable so you could see some sort of status like you could in the past. Now the shield just disappears and you have no idea what is going on but to assume it is broke.
For now I did manual updates via windowsUpdate from the browser.
MS needs to fix this....

I have configured the automaitc updates to notify me about updates. This works fine. I choice then to download, then the icon disapairs and no downlod takes effect.
The Widowsupdate.Log (last lines):
005-04-14 10:10:21+0200 900 794 WU client calls back to download call {CE63F4AD-2336-48D4-B76A-9FC451E223A0} with code Call progress and error 0
2005-04-14 10:10:31+0200 900 1a8 AU received event of 1
2005-04-14 10:10:31+0200 900 1a8 No pending client directive, bailing out

2005-04-14 10:15:22+0200 3056 bf4 Out of proc datastore is now inactive
Than nothing happenes. If I turn off the Automatic Update and then on again, the procedure repeats on the same way.
Is it a configuration problem?
