I went to that site and went thru the installation process, did a reboot, but
when I go to Windows Update page, it still says it failed. How do I check to
see if the fool thing took or not? According to the installing pricess, it
went to a temp folder?

When you go back to the Update site, it should not find that the patch is
needed any longer. I realize that when you look at the log it still shows
the dl as failing, because it did in fact fail when you originally tried to
install.

IF, the patch was still needed, then it would still show up as patches
needing to be downloaded when you go to MS Update site.

Here is a link to the page that has a download for systems other than XP.
The one I originally posted was the patch just for Windows XP (32 bit
version).

Why won't Microsoft simply fix the update procedure? (Sorry, just seems
really obvious.) Maybe the folks at Microsoft don't work with "normal"
computer users. Well, I do. The vast majority of them will not know to go any
further than seeing a failure. Not a single one of my clients will have the
wherewithal to come to these newsgroups. It's time Microsoft recognized that
99% of its users are not geeks--and yes, need to be spoon-fed.

So again, why not simply fix the update procedure?
