download/register loop

I was previously able to download and install updates. Then I stored this
computer for months. On reactivating, I had to "verify" that my copy of
Windows was legal. This appeared to work OK, but when I tried to get
subsequent Windows or Microsoft updates I just got a loop that said Update
software and registration were required. I said "OK" and it appeared to do
both, but when I checked "Express" I got the same message again, about
needing to register, etc.
I really need these updates. Can anyone help? Thanks. Ace Chase

I found it. Copy this after start and run ( copy and paste)
2\regsvr32.exe%windir%\system32\MSXMl3.dll I hope I typed that
correctly, because it worked like magic and 8 items downloaded promptly.
