download too large

Windows Update has worked pretty well for me, except when I let it go
for awhile and have several updates to download. I have dial-up so
downloading is slow.

I haven't been prompted for updates in awhile so I thought I was
up-to-date. However, yesterday I saw the little icon on my taskbar. I
pulled the cursor over it, and it said it was something like 39%
complete in downloads. So I let it run for 3 hours, after which time
it was something like 48% complete. My installation history says the
last installation was Aug. 20, so I must have started this download
sometime in September.

I thought that when I connected to the internet, the download started
automatically. However, the download would be done by now if that were
the case. I've left my computer on all day and the Windows Update icon
has not appeared on my taskbar.

My question is: can I cancel the current download and start over
again?

Thanks.

If it is SP2, it could take 20 hours logged on or more on a
dial-up to complete, give it time. If you do not have SP2
installed yet you can order the SP2 CD and it will come in
the mail in about a week and it is totally free (MS even
pays the postage)
