download updates to a different computer w/o internet?

Hi ,, I have an old laptop with no internet service and I'd like to download
the 98 service packs onto my desktop and then transfer on cd, but when I go
to the download options, microsoft finds that I have XP on my desktop and
won't let me download. is there a solution? thanks

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update Catalog or from
the Microsoft Update Catalog:

You *may* be able to order the Windows Security Update CD via the Order Desk
to take off some of the load. The CD contains all updates for all OSS
through and including those released in Oct-03 (IIRC).

Yes, but how do you apply these patches in the correct order to the
offline computer? Can the machine's Automatic Updates engine use the
local patch cache and manually downloaded scan CABs to do this? Each
patch could be installed by hand, but if its done in the wrong order,
vulnerabilities may still exist.

And therein lies the rub, unfortunately. Generally, you would install the
updates in order (e.g., MS04-3x before MS04-04x, and MS04-0xx before
MS05-0xx). If an update is a cumulative one (e.g., IE and OE updates),
you'll only need to install the most recent one.

IE6 SP1 should be installed before installing any others.
