Hello.
Before I got rid of my WinXP Pro I downloaded my personal website onto a CD.
Now I have a Vista Home Premium and I need to put the website into my
computer so I'll have the local and be able to get into the Remote website so
I can update, publish, etc. I use FrontPage 2003. My Problem is? I don't know
where I should house my website in the computer? Is there a special place I
need to place it so it can be found by the FP? Is any place ok in the C/drive
or does it have to go in Users, or Programs, ?? where? Please help as I know
this seems like a stupid question, but I am new to this and fumbling my way
here. Thanks for any and all help, p.l.e.a.s.e....

for me personally I usually make a "my webs" folder inside my documents
folder and place my websites in individual folders inside there. However I
don't know how front page works seeing as I use a ftp program to upload my
website I'm pretty sure you can tell FrontPage were your website is am not
sure though...

It should not matter. I use a folder that is NOT part of "My Documents"
and just call it www or something - that way it's easy to keep track of
where I put it and easy to simply copy the whole thing for backups.

By all means see what others say but I think you will be fairly safe
whatever you choose to do.

I'm guessing the website needs to go into the C/Drive, BUT the thing is -
with Vista there are many tiers and they are different and are used
differently in Vista and I don't know which place I need to put the website
into, like into Program Files, olr Windows, or Users and then which tier from
there? Does the local website need to be located in the same place in the
computer as it was when it was in my XP??? Also why not in My Documents or as
Vista simply calls it 'Documents'. Vista puts just about everything in there
by itself...I'm always moving stuff out of there.

That's why I choose not to put more things in docs

Definitely not program files and not windows...

Lets say you open C drive and make a folder www

> file://c:/www/index.htm

will get you to view the website assuming your first page is index.htm

Front Page will always look in Documents/My Webs so place yours there.
