Whenever i download a file, the download bar shows, but after completion
i go to open the file, but it shows that it has 0 bytes.

I looked online and some people said it was because of my anti virus
(AVG) . i recently updated it to ver. 9. I thought it was because i
updated it, so i restored my computer to prior the installation (about 2
days). i still get the same problem.
I then tried to uninstall AVG but i get the error:
Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG8"
@AvgErrorCode_0x0020)

Can anyone help me with this (with both my anti virus and the download
problem...but preferably the download problem...)?

It could be AVG, but it could also be the browser. No need to uninstall
AVG - just stop it (but only for a test). And try another browser.

The reason that they show 0 bytes to download is that Automatic Updates has
actually already downloaded the bits to your computer but has not yet
installed them. AU will install on shuddown, at the scheduled time
(typically 3am) or if you click on the pop-up bubble that says updates are
ready to install.

Windows Update site is aware that AU has downloaded the updates, so when you
tell it to install it uses the already-downloaded versions, so it shows 0
bytes.

hope this helps.

Also, obtain the latest Windows Update Agent

Microsoft has made version 7.4.7600.226 of the Windows Update Agent
available on the Microsoft Download Center.
